Vocational Training in Oil Heat Service and Repair

The average starting salary for a new Service Technician is $35,000/year, increasing to as much as $45,000 in less than three to five years! Many oil heat industry jobs in Washington State are union, providing excellent benefits and financial security for your family.
Who should attend? The service and repair technical school is designed for beginners in the field, as well as those seeking continued education. It is practical and intensive, focusing on the concepts and applications of oil heating systems. Technicians already working in the oil heating industry, or looking to gain employment as an oil heat service technician, are encouraged to attend the training.
The Oil Heat Service and Repair Technical School is three weeks in length and is licensed with the Washington State Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board under Chapter 28C.10 RCW. Students can expect a balance between theory and hands-on learning.
Oil Heat Service and Repair Course Curriculum:
Weeks 1 and 2: Oil Burner Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Oil Burner Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Oil tanks - the use of pressure and vacuum gages
- Oil burner nozzles and firing assemblies
- Combustion chambers, materials and troubleshooting systems
- Use of combustion analyzers and carbon monoxide instruments
- Maintaining and troubleshooting controls found in oil heating systems
- Use of amperage meters in motors. Corrective action to maintain reliable system operations.
- Installation instructions on new oil burners and recommended procedures for upgrading an existing system
- Customer satisfaction and reduction of customer call backs
Week 3: Advanced Troubleshooting
- New oil pumps and solenoid valve use
- Firing assembly problems
- Service and troubleshooting “special types” of oil heating appliances
